Ruth Van Alstine is A poet and writer, she has published several poetry books, “Fairies and Fantasies”, “Shattered Moonbeams” and “A While Away”, a limited-run volume featuring both poetry and her artwork, released in April 2021. She has had poems published in national and international anthologies including The Henry Bunner Anthology, Harriet Spofford: An Anthology in Memoriam from Bristol Banner Books, The Parnassus of World Poets Anthology, the Florida State Poets Association: Cadence Anthology Thirty-eight 2020, (a) River Rising: Blooms 2020 to name a few. She continues to build a collection of memoir essays from family and life experiences and creative prose along the way. She serves as President of North Florida Poetry Hub and the Membership Chair of Florida State Poets Association.
Her work in handcraft arts has encompassed jewelry making, collage, scrapbooking, crochet, sewing and various other crafts. In the past few years, she took up the brush and started working with acrylics and canvas for a new way to express her creativity.
One of her recent pieces from 2020, “Blooms” is a multimedia upcycled collage inspired by center mounted brooch, a treasured personal piece. The ekphrastic poem, written in response, is mounted on the canvas & was published in “(a) River Rising~Blooms” 2020 was one of her first creations in this new venture of art expression and has led to the abstract painting she is now exploring.
She is a member of the Ancient City Poets of St Augustine, Florida, North Florida Poetry Hub, Florida State Poets Association, and the National Federation of State Poetry Societies (NFSPS). She serves as President of North Florida Poetry Hub and Membership Chair of Florida State Poets Association.
